For True Crime Junkies
If I catch the first five minutes of 48 Hours I’m pretty much glued to my couch for the next hour. I.must.know.what.happens. And I want to know EVERYTHING there is to know about a case. Podcasts have really created a space for people who love true crime to dork out and these two shows are my favorite.
My Favorite Murder, Feral Audio
Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff might be the biggest gift to the podcast world. I don’t know where these two were before this, maybe hiding in a writers room, but they are hilarious, authentic and the perfect hosts for this show. Every week each of them recounts a murder case and they occasionally read ‘Hometown Murder’ stories sent in by listeners. The stories they tell are super compelling, but the way they tell these stories and their side commentary about them is what makes this show so great. I regularly find myself laughing during this podcast…even though it’s about murder. However, Karen and Georgia are super respectful to the victims of the crimes they discuss. I love this podcast, not just because I love true crime, but also because I love their dynamic, I love their stories, and I love Elvis. SSDGM. Byeeeeee.
Last Podcast On the Left, Cave Comedy Radio
I didn’t like this show the first time I listened to it. It’s three male hosts that are pretty crass telling you a story about a murderer, cult or science fiction myth, sometimes in excruciating detail. However, in time that’s exactly why I grew to love this show. Ben Kissel, Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski host Last Podcast on the Left and they are really three very funny guys who do their homework on these stories they choose to tell. I understand why LPOL isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I look forward to it every week. Hail Satan!
